Kevin’s Custom Ag Ltd. has been fined $84,000 after pleading guilty to violating Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, resulting in the death of a worker exposed to carbon monoxide.
The company entered the guilty plea on Sept. 25, 2024, in Nipawin Provincial Court to contravening clause 24-8 (2)(b) of the regulations. This clause mandates that employers provide and maintain approved blasting hoods supplied with clean air at a reasonable temperature for workers engaged in abrasive blasting.
The court imposed a fine of $60,000 and a surcharge of $24,000, totalling $84,000.
The charges originated from an incident on February 23, 2023, in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where a worker was fatally injured while using a sandblaster.
