The majority of HR leaders now trust artificial intelligence (AI) in hiring decisions, according to HireVue’s 2025 Global Guide to AI in Hiring. The report, based on responses from more than 4,000 HR professionals and employees worldwide, highlights a sharp increase in AI adoption, with 72% of HR leaders now using the technology—up from 58% last year.
Confidence in AI-powered hiring recommendations has also risen, with 51% of HR leaders expressing trust in these systems, compared to 37% in 2024. Despite concerns about misinformation, job displacement, and data security, many HR professionals report that AI is enhancing, rather than replacing, human decision-making.
“AI research continues to advance, enabling models to achieve new levels of predictive performance,” said Dr. Lindsey Zuloaga, Chief Data Scientist at HireVue.
As HR teams contend with an influx of AI-generated job applications, more employers are turning to skills-based assessments to ensure quality hires. According to the report, 41% of HR professionals now use skill assessments in hiring.
Candidates, too, are warming to AI in recruitment, with 57% believing it can reduce racial and ethnic bias—an increase of 6% from last year. However, skepticism remains, with concerns about fairness and transparency still shaping discussions around AI’s role in hiring.
The report recommends that HR leaders focus on ethical AI use, including positioning AI as a decision-support tool rather than a final arbiter, and clearly communicating how hiring technologies are used.
