The proportion of Canadian hybrid workers spending at least half their work hours at locations other than home rose in the past year, according to Statistics Canada.

In November 2024, 55.8 per cent of hybrid workers — those who split their work hours between home and other locations—reported working the majority of their hours on-site during the Labour Force Survey reference week, an increase of 4.2 percentage points compared with November 2023, the agency said.

The shift was most pronounced in public administration, where 61.5 per cent of hybrid workers spent at least half their time on-site, up 19.9 percentage points from the previous year, Statistics Canada said.

By contrast, hybrid workers in industries such as professional, scientific, and technical services, and finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing saw little change. In November, 44.1 per cent of hybrid workers in professional services spent most of their time on-site, while the proportion was 39.9 per cent in finance-related fields, Statistics Canada said.

Overall, 11.5 per cent of employed Canadians aged 15 to 69 reported a hybrid work arrangement in November 2024, while 12.5 per cent worked exclusively from home.

Both figures were largely unchanged from November 2023, the agency said.
