Olympus Canada has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for the ninth year in a row, recognizing the company’s exceptional human resources programs and progressive workplace policies.

Employees cited leadership training and core values as key factors contributing to the positive work environment. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with people who have deep experience in the company,” said surgical and ENT sales representative Marie-Christine Asselin. “There is a strong collaborative culture that helped me to learn quickly, which has a positive impact on my work.”

Asselin benefited from Olympus’ North American Emerging Leaders Program, designed to develop sales leadership talent within the organization beyond the traditional peer-to-leader promotions pathway.

Manager of distribution centre operations, Kevin Treuer, highlighted the development and training opportunities that expose employees to various business units and leadership roles. Treuer said Olympus’ core values—patient focus, innovation, impact, empathy and integrity—serve as a unifying objective. “Each team develops a charter to show how they will uphold the core values,” he said. “It gives us a common purpose, and we pull together.”

The Greater Toronto’s Top Employers competition, organized by Mediacorp, grades employers on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Employers are compared to others in their field to determine which companies offer the most forward-thinking programs.

Olympus Canada’s employee benefits include a work-from-home option for some employees, a $1,500 mental health practitioner benefit, 100 per cent adoption leave top-up pay, up to $5,250 in unrelated tuition subsidies, a maximum of $2,000 in matching charitable donations per employee, and two days of paid volunteer time.

Olympus Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Olympus Corporation of the Americas, manages the company’s operations and workforce throughout Canada in roles such as sales, marketing, service and support functions. Based in Richmond Hill, Ont., the company is committed to developing its employees and supporting local communities.
