Nova Scotia employers are enhancing their workplace benefits and HR policies to remain competitive nationally as the province continues its strong employment growth since the pandemic.

The province’s exceptional workplaces were recognized today with the announcement of Nova Scotia’s Top Employers for 2025 by Mediacorp Canada Inc., which organizes the national Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.

“Employers in Nova Scotia are stepping up to maintain the momentum that developed during the pandemic,” said Anthony Meehan, publisher at Mediacorp who has roots in the province. “The province is a national leader in job growth since the pandemic, with most winners on this year’s Nova Scotia’s Top Employers list offering benefits and programs that are competitive nationally.”

According to Meehan, these competitive offerings include maternity and parental leave top-ups and investments in employee mental health, creating attractive workplaces for talent.

Population growth drives competitive workplace practices

Nova Scotia experienced significant population growth during the pandemic as former residents returned home and other Canadians relocated to the province, attracted by its quality of life and affordability.

In response, employers—particularly in technology and services sectors—have created workplaces that support remote work from Nova Scotia, offering employees strong career prospects combined with excellent quality of life. This approach has helped maintain high employment growth in the province even after the pandemic.

Selection process maintains rigorous standards

Now in its 19th year, Nova Scotia’s Top Employers recognizes organizations in the province that create exceptional workplaces. Mediacorp editors evaluate employers using eight consistent criteria: workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

The competition publishes detailed reasons for selection to provide transparency and showcase best practices for employers and job-seekers. Any employer with headquarters or principal operations in Nova Scotia can participate, regardless of whether they are in the public or private sector.

The complete list of Nova Scotia’s Top Employers for 2025 was announced this morning by competition organizers, with detailed information about each winner’s initiatives available on the competition website.
