The Bridging to Retirement Program, which has helped thousands of British Columbia forestry workers transition out of the industry, has reached full capacity and is no longer accepting applications as of Feb. 26, 2025.
Launched in October 2019, the program has provided nearly 2,220 workers with financial support, distributing more than $92 million in funding. In 2021, it was extended with a three-year commitment to assist workers aged 55 and older affected by industry challenges.
The closure comes as the forestry sector faces renewed uncertainty, with potential U.S. tariffs threatening jobs and businesses. The provincial government said it is working with Ottawa to ensure continued support for affected workers.
“Government is focused on defending B.C.’s workers, businesses and economy,” the province said in a brief statement announcing the end of the program.
