Bakke Contracting fined $125,000 for workplace safety violation in Saskatchewan

by HR News Canada

Bakke Contracting Ltd. has been fined $125,000 after pleading guilty to a workplace safety violation that resulted in a serious injury to a worker.

The penalty, handed down by Moose Jaw Provincial Court on October 10, stems from a February 2023 incident near Brownlee, Saskatchewan. The worker fell from an elevated platform and suffered significant injuries.

Bakke Contracting admitted to violating clause 3-1(a) of Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, which requires employers to provide safe working conditions. The company was fined $89,285.71, with an additional surcharge of $35,714.29.

Four other charges against the company were withdrawn as part of the plea agreement.

The case underscores the ongoing emphasis on workplace safety and employer responsibility in preventing injuries on the job.
