Denovo Window & Door Inc. has been fined $70,000 after pleading guilty to a workplace safety violation in connection with a scaffold fall that seriously injured a worker.

The Saskatoon Provincial Court handed down the sentence after Denovo Window & Door admitted to failing to ensure the use of fall protection at a worksite where a fall posed a risk of injury. The fine, which includes a $50,000 penalty and a $20,000 surcharge, follows an incident on November 15, 2022, in Saskatoon, where a worker fell from a scaffold, sustaining serious injuries.

The company was charged under section 9-2 (2) (b) of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, which requires employers to ensure that workers use fall protection systems when there is a risk of injury from falls at heights less than three metres. According to court documents, Denovo Window & Door was accused of failing to meet these safety obligations, leading to the accident.

Three additional charges against the company were withdrawn as part of the proceedings.
