Four Quebec mills under the Paper Excellence Group have been recognized in the 2023 health and safety rankings by Pulp & Paper Canada. These accolades highlight the group’s commitment to ensuring safe working environments across its facilities.
The Domtar Windsor mill was named the safest mill in Category A, which includes facilities with more than 80,000 worker hours per month. In Category C, which covers facilities with fewer than 50,000 worker hours per month, Resolute Forest Products, another subsidiary of the Paper Excellence Group, dominated the rankings. The Saint-Félicien pulp mill took first place, with the Alma and Dolbeau paper mills securing second and third places, respectively.
“Above all, this is a team success,” said Richard Tremblay, president of Paper Excellence Group’s Pulp and Tissue business unit. “We are focused on creating and maintaining a safe workplace and holding everyone accountable for safety. Our goal is zero injuries at every location.”
The Safest Mill awards, presented annually by Pulp & Paper Canada, assess participating mills based on their safety records, ranking them from the lowest to highest number of recordable incidents.
Steve Henry, president of Paper Excellence Group’s Paper and Packaging business unit, expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating, “It reflects the excellent work our employees in Quebec have done to ensure we are providing a safe work environment. It is nice to win awards, but it is even nicer to get our people home safely to their families each day.”
The Paper Excellence Group, a global leader in pulp, paper, packaging, and wood products, operates nearly 60 locations across the Americas and Europe. The group, which includes Domtar Corporation and Resolute Forest Products, is recognized for its commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices.
