Workers at Glencore’s mining and smelting operations in Sudbury have approved a new four-year collective agreement that includes wage increases, cost-of-living adjustments, and pension improvements.
Members of Unifor Local 598 voted in favour of the deal, which includes a $5,500 ratification bonus for regular full-time employees in the first year and an additional $1,000 payment in 2028. The agreement also introduces a minimum cost-of-living adjustment roll-in of $0.46, increases to shift premiums, and changes to the nickel bonus structure.
Lana Payne, Unifor’s national president, said the agreement reflects the needs of workers. “There is something in this agreement for every worker, and that demonstrates strong solidarity at work,” she said.
Other provisions include improved dental and disability benefits, new coverage for massage therapy, and pension enhancements. The deal also establishes a Joint Job Evaluation Committee and reinstates a construction crew. Additionally, Glencore will provide funding for a Medication Awareness Program administered by a retiree committee.
The union represents 679 workers at the operation.
