Workers at the Amazon facility in Delta, B.C., are preparing to vote this week on whether to join Unifor, Canada’s largest private-sector union, following a decision by the B.C. Labour Relations Board (BCLRB).

“The power of union representation is within reach for Amazon workers at Delta,” said Unifor’s National President Lana Payne. “The best way to have a strong voice at work is to vote to join our union and send your employer a clear collective message.”

The process began when hundreds of Amazon workers at the Delta facility signed confidential union cards, prompting Unifor to apply for certification with the BCLRB. After a hearing on May 27, the Board issued an order for a confidential vote.

Voting will commence at 3 p.m. PT on May 28 and will conclude at 12 noon on May 31. A simple majority of votes cast will determine if Unifor becomes the official bargaining representative for the workers, according to the union.

The move in Delta follows previous unionization efforts at Amazon facilities, starting with the “JFK8” distribution centre on Staten Island, New York, in April 2022, and more recently, the “DXT4” warehouse in Laval, Quebec.

Unifor, which represents 315,000 workers across various sectors in Canada, advocates for workers’ rights, equality, and social justice, aiming to foster progressive change.
