Unionized employees at Metro’s distribution centre in Montréal have ratified a new five-year collective agreement, the company announced.
The employees, represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 501, have agreed to terms that aim to balance the interests of customers, employees, and merchants, it said.
“We are pleased to have renewed the collective agreement for employees at our Grocery distribution centre in Montréal,” said Caroline Larocque, Metro’s vice-president of logistics and distribution for Québec. “We believe this new collective agreement, which was unanimously recommended by the employee bargaining committee, is fair, balanced, and respectful of the needs of customers, employees, and merchants. This agreement ensures that our employees continue to enjoy competitive working conditions.”
Metro, a major food and pharmacy retailer, operates in Québec and Ontario with annual sales exceeding $20 billion. The company employs over 97,000 people and operates a network of approximately 980 food stores under various banners, including Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, Food Basics, Adonis, and Première Moisson.
Additionally, it runs around 640 pharmacies primarily under the Jean Coutu, Brunet, Metro Pharmacy, and Food Basics Pharmacy banners.
