Menopause benefits improve employee health, lower workplace costs: report

by Todd Humber

Providing menopause-related health benefits can significantly improve employee well-being and reduce workplace costs linked to absenteeism and turnover, according to a new report released Tuesday by Canadian digital health platform sanoLiving.

The whitepaper, analyzing data from thousands of women using the company’s virtual menopause care service sanoMidLife, found that 80 per cent of participants reported improved overall quality of life after receiving comprehensive menopause support.

“Rising benefit costs—driven in part by midlife women’s unmet health needs—make menopause support a workplace necessity,” said Angela Johnson, CEO of sanoLiving. “When employers provide access to expert care—not just policies and accommodations—women can manage symptoms and stay productive.”

According to sanoLiving, one in 10 women leaves her job due to unmanaged menopause symptoms. Additionally, women in their mid-40s experience higher rates of disability claims and prescription drug usage for conditions commonly associated with menopause.

The company’s report highlighted several key improvements among women receiving targeted menopause care: 54 per cent saw improvements in mood and emotional well-being; 50 per cent reported better job performance; and 70 per cent noted enhanced professional and personal relationships.

“Providing menopause benefits isn’t just about employee health—it’s a strategic business decision,” Johnson said.

Employers investing in expert medical care, coaching, and digital support tools typically experience higher employee retention rates, improved workforce productivity, and reduced healthcare-related expenditures, according to the whitepaper.
