Saskatchewan Blue Cross expands health plan access with virtual care partnership with Cleveland Clinic Canada, Homewood Health

by HR News Canada

Saskatchewan Blue Cross will include expanded virtual care and mental health support in all its health plans starting in 2025, the organization announced Tuesday. The initiative is part of a partnership with Cleveland Clinic Canada and Homewood Health, aimed at addressing challenges in healthcare access, particularly in rural and remote areas.

The new offering will allow plan members to connect with healthcare professionals 24/7, providing services such as medical consultations, mental health counselling, and life coaching. Members will also have access to Employee Family Assistance Programs (EFAP) and Individual Assistance Programs (IAP) for support with stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

“Whether you live in a city or a remote community, all members should have access to health and mental wellness support,” said Kelly Wilson, president and CEO of Saskatchewan Blue Cross. “This partnership enables us to offer a comprehensive support system that ensures equitable access to critical services.”

The partnership with Cleveland Clinic Canada includes virtual consultations with nurse practitioners, offering immediate advice, follow-ups, and referrals. Homewood Health’s services will focus on short-term, goal-oriented mental health counselling, with culturally sensitive options like access to Elders or Traditional Healers for Indigenous members.

“This integrated health solution combines EFAP, mental health, and virtual care services,” said Jagoda Pike, president and CEO of Homewood Health. “We are excited to contribute to enhancing healthcare in Saskatchewan.”

Members will also have access to online tools such as cognitive behavioural therapy programs, health risk assessments, and a library of wellness resources. The initiative is designed to provide support for both immediate health needs and long-term wellness, offering tools for managing stress, improving lifestyle habits, and making informed health decisions.

Michael Kessel, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Canada, highlighted the importance of timely care, saying, “Access to timely care is essential to maintaining good health, and we are honoured to support Saskatchewan Blue Cross members.”

The expanded services come at a time when healthcare access remains a significant challenge in many parts of Canada, particularly for those without a family doctor. By integrating virtual care with other health services, Saskatchewan Blue Cross aims to bridge these gaps.
