Specsavers Canada has been ranked the top retail employer in the country by the Great Place to Work Institute, landing 11th overall on the 2025 Best Workplaces in Canada list.
The ranking places Specsavers as the highest-rated retailer in the category for companies with more than 1,000 employees. The Vancouver-based optical chain was also honoured with the Respect Award for scoring highest on the “respect” dimension of the institute’s Trust Index, which measures employee views on collaboration, fairness, and support from leadership.
Bill Moir, managing director of Specsavers Canada, credited the company’s culture for the recognition.
“This achievement is thanks to the vibrant, collaborative culture we’ve built together across Canada,” said Moir.
Rapid expansion since market entry
Specsavers entered the Canadian market in November 2021 and has opened more than 150 locations across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba. The business is owned and led by optometrists and aims to provide affordable eyewear, advanced clinical technology, and a high standard of customer care.
The company said the latest recognition aligns with its efforts to foster inclusion, fairness, and trust across its workforce. Other recent accolades include certifications and placements on lists for Best Workplace for Women, Young Talent, Trusted Executives, Retail and Hospitality, Giving Back, and British Columbia.
Specsavers was also ranked 16th on the 2024 World’s Best Workplaces list.
Methodology and context
The Great Place to Work Institute’s annual study draws on feedback from over 640,000 employees in Canada. Rankings are based on the Trust Index survey, which evaluates workplace culture through employee perceptions of leadership, camaraderie, and overall trust.
“The organizations on this list care for all their people,” said Nancy Fonseca, senior vice-president of client services at Great Place to Work Canada. “That creates opportunities for great innovation and business success.”
