Tangerine Bank has been named among the Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance in Canada by Great Place to Work, a global research and consulting firm that evaluates workplace cultures.

The accolade highlights Tangerine Bank’s commitment to fostering a work environment centred on innovation, diversity, and teamwork.

“This recognition, directly from our employees, is an amazing testament to the foundation we’ve built,” said Gillian Riley, President and CEO of Tangerine Bank.

Tangerine’s culture prioritizes employee belonging and innovation through several initiatives:

  • Agile Capabilities and Working Models: Expanding flexible working options to enhance team collaboration and productivity.
  • Learning Curriculum: Providing employees with resources to innovate and maximize their impact both for clients and their own careers.
  • Continuous Feedback Loops: Ensuring employee voices are heard and initiatives align with cultural goals.
  • Inclusive Workspaces: Investing in accessible and inclusive environments, supported by an Inclusion Index which, as of May 2024, stands at 92%.

Additionally, Tangerine Bank offers various benefits aimed at inclusivity:

  • Global Inclusive Standards of Care: Focusing on closing healthcare gaps for women and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • Parental Leave: Enhanced to offer 8 fully paid weeks for eligible parents welcoming a new child, with an additional 8 weeks for those who have given birth.
  • Fertility Treatment Coverage: Increased to a lifetime maximum of $20,000, along with $10,000 each for adoption and surrogacy support.

The bank also emphasizes ongoing investments in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. In August 2023, Tangerine introduced an Indigenous Inclusion Team to support Indigenous employees and foster cultural awareness. Additionally, more than 450 DEI-specific learning resources are available to all employees to support their inclusion journey.

“Tangerine Bank is a subsidiary of Scotiabank and is included in the employee sample list for the Great Place to Work Trust Index survey for Canada,” noted Riley. “Our focus on DEI and employee satisfaction is essential to our success and growth.”

Tangerine Bank, launched as ING DIRECT Canada in 1997 and acquired by Scotiabank in 2012, serves over 2 million clients with nearly $40 billion in total assets. It prides itself on delivering simplified everyday banking and innovative services to Canadians through its digital platforms and 24/7 contact centres.
