Unifor members working for CN Transportation Ltd. (CNTL) have ratified a new four-year contract, securing improvements in working conditions and compensation.
“This was a challenging round of bargaining, but the outcome for the membership is an agreement that sets a new standard for fair and equitable labour practices in this sector,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. She highlighted the agreement as a “significant victory for CNTL workers.”
The new contract includes an increased safety bonus, a signing bonus, enhanced per diem allowances, an increased tractor paint allowance, and better compensation for highway cut-offs and wait times.
Unifor Council 4000 President Dave Kissack praised the efforts of the bargaining teams, stating, “The agreement is a testament to the power of collective bargaining and underscores the importance of collaboration and support for the bargaining committee.”
Additionally, the contract provides substantial increases in customer and terminal waiting times, zone and mileage rates for each year of the agreement, and maintains a fuel subsidy to cover a significant portion of fuel costs.
Unifor represents 786 independent owner-operator truck drivers who transport cargo for CN’s Intermodal business across Canada. These owner-operators are members of Unifor Council 4000 and its five Regional Local Unions.
Unifor is Canada’s largest private-sector union, representing 315,000 workers across various industries. The union advocates for workers’ rights, equality, and social justice, striving for progressive change.
