Rebel Drilling Ltd. has been fined $15,000 following a workplace safety violation involving untrained personnel operating mobile equipment. The Saskatchewan-based company entered a guilty plea in Weyburn Provincial Court on October 29, 2024, to one count under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.

The court determined that Rebel Drilling breached subsection 154(2) of the provincial safety regulations, which mandates employers to ensure that only trained operators are permitted to handle powered mobile equipment.

The fine includes $10,714.29 plus a $4,285.71 surcharge, bringing the total penalty to $15,000.

The charges relate to an incident that took place on January 20, 2021, in Weyburn.

In addition to the guilty plea, one other charge against Rebel Drilling was stayed, according to a press release issued by the province.
