Workstaff, a Montreal-based company specializing in workforce management solutions, has successfully closed a $1.6 million seed funding round. The financing was completed in the second quarter of 2024, with contributions from Impulsion PME, a program managed by Investissement Québec, and Anges Québec.

The new capital will support Workstaff’s expansion into global markets and further development of its platform, which aids companies in finding, scheduling, and managing temporary and flexible staff. Industries such as hospitality and food services, which heavily rely on temporary workers, have been particularly affected by labour shortages, impacting profitability and growth.

Nick Dauchez, CEO of Workstaff, highlighted the platform’s unique features.

“Workstaff’s platform addresses core issues related to temporary staffing, including an innovative ‘offer’ publishing system that allows companies to quickly manage staff across large databases using proprietary technology,” Dauchez stated.

This funding will enable the development of a marketplace to match temporary work with available workers, aiming to mitigate labour shortages by providing real-time access to labour and reducing the time spent on onboarding flexible staff.

Bicha Ngo, President and CEO of Investissement Québec, expressed support for the initiative.

“Investissement Québec is pleased to support young, innovative companies that are finding accessible solutions to concrete problems affecting a growing number of Québec businesses. Managing human resources is a key issue for entrepreneurs, and with Impulsion PME, we are proud to contribute to the development of Workstaff’s technologies.”

Pierre Fitzgibbon, Quebec’s Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, also emphasized the importance of innovation in tackling labour shortages.

“Workstaff’s technological platform meets the practical needs of employers dealing with a labour shortage. Innovation is crucial for overcoming this challenge and boosting productivity for our SMEs,” Fitzgibbon added.

Founded in 2020, Workstaff offers cloud-based workforce management tools designed to streamline the management of on-demand staff. The company provides scheduling software and a mobile app to keep staff informed and engaged, optimizing scheduling for maximum flexibility.
