Amid rising unemployment rates, students from Centennial College’s postgraduate public relations program in Toronto have initiated a social media campaign to challenge misconceptions about college education and advocate for its role in career advancement.

Starting today, the “What’s the future now?” campaign will feature a series of testimonials on the School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design’s Instagram, LinkedIn, and X accounts, under the hashtag #WhatNow. These testimonials aim to showcase the success stories of current students and alumni who found career opportunities through the school’s postgraduate certificates.

The campaign was conceived by students Yazmeen Bisharat, Peter Boakye-Danquah, Sofia Carandan, Delicia Chapman, Emily Wilson, and Yvette Ye, who drew from their personal experiences of uncertainty after completing their university degrees.

“After my university degree, I wasn’t sure what was next, given the current job market,” said Yvette Ye, a student expected to graduate in 2025. “But challenging my doubts about college pushed me to gain the skills necessary to break into a field I’m passionate about. Our message to new graduates, job seekers, and professionals considering a change is: Don’t let preconceived notions about college prevent you from finding your version of career success.”

The campaign focuses on authenticity and relatability to highlight Centennial’s postgraduate college experience as a valuable step for those looking to advance their careers. Associate Dean Laura Kittner emphasized the practical training students receive at Centennial, stating, “Through our field placement and Storyworks courses, students receive hands-on, integrated learning to ensure they graduate industry-ready and equipped to thrive in the job market.”

The campaign invites participation and discussion using the hashtag #WhatNow on various social media platforms.
