Employees who commute or drive for work in Manitoba have a new tool at their fingertips to stay safe on the roads. The province is launching “Track My Plow,” a real-time snowplow tracking system.
The new tool, available on Manitoba 511’s website and smartphone app, allows users to track active snowplows and see where they have been in the past two hours. Combined with road condition descriptions and closures, it enables drivers to make informed decisions before heading out.
“Manitobans know that winter storms are a part of our lives, and the new Track My Plow app will help Manitobans plan their winter commutes without having to even look out the window,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor.
For employers and HR professionals, the feature offers an additional resource to help ensure the safety of staff who travel as part of their job duties. By providing real-time updates, companies can better plan routes and schedules, potentially reducing the risk of accidents or delays.
“CAA Manitoba congratulates the Manitoba government on the launch of this new technology, which we believe will be welcomed by Manitobans as they navigate our roads, streets and highways this winter,” said Ewald Friesen, manager of government and community relations at CAA Manitoba. “We are in full support of innovations that increase road safety in our province.”
The government also acknowledged the efforts of snowplow operators who work in challenging weather conditions to keep highways clear.
