HRCI expands board with appointments of Shaun Mayo and Shelie Gustafson

The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) has announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors, effective January 1, 2025. Shaun Mayo, Chief People Officer for the Arizona Cardinals, and Shelie Gustafson, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer at Jacobs Solutions, will bring their extensive HR experience to the organization.

Mayo, who holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and an MBA from the University of Houston, has a background in leading HR functions at major companies, including JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Amazon, and Walmart. He has focused on talent management, organizational development, and workforce planning throughout his career.

Gustafson has served as CPO at Jacobs Solutions, a global professional services firm with $15 billion in revenue, since 2016. She has played a key role in transformative initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, and has led international teams across multiple regions. Gustafson holds various certifications, including NACD.DC, GPHR, and SPHR, and a master’s degree in communications from the University of Colorado.

HRCI Board Chair Andre T. Allen, GPHR, said, “We’re honored to welcome these HR professionals to the HRCI board. Their contributions to aligning HR with business performance are significant, and their knowledge will be invaluable to our community.”

HRCI CEO Dr. Amy Dufrane, SPHR, CAE, also expressed excitement about the new appointments, noting, “Shaun and Shelie are accomplished HR leaders with strong track records of driving innovation and transformation. We’re eager to learn from them as they help guide the future of HRCI.”
