Fuel Transport Inc., a prominent logistics and transportation firm based in Montreal, announced a significant overhaul of its employee policies, effective January 2024, aimed at enhancing job experiences and overall satisfaction for its workforce. The updated policies include a reduction in the workweek to 35 hours without a decrease in global compensation, the introduction of a Virtual Work program, additional vacation days for all regular full-time employees, and an extension of parental leave to 12 weeks for all parents in the United States.

In the face of substantial technological advancements within the logistics and transportation sector, Fuel Transport’s CEO, Robert Piccioni, expressed concern that the industry has fallen short in supporting the contemporary logistics worker. The company’s new 35-hour workweek policy is designed to bolster the work-life balance of its employees, offering them greater flexibility, autonomy, and the invaluable asset of time.

Piccioni stated, “This is not an easy industry. It can be demanding and unpredictable, and part of why I started this company was to invest in employee health and well-being on a completely different level. Better working conditions, more balance, more time to focus on what fulfills them and enables their strongest self to show up. This is what Human Intelligence (H.I.) is all about. Yes, we are majorly focused on AI and machine learning, but at the end of the day, our policy initiatives and tech investments all support the same objective – to build the strongest, highest-performing team in logistics.”

These initiatives are part of Fuel’s broader strategy to heavily invest in talent capital, prioritize employee well-being, and spearhead progress in the logistics field by leveraging Human Intelligence alongside technological advancements. The response from Fuel’s employees to the new policies has reportedly been overwhelmingly positive.

Fuel Transport is known for its innovative solutions to logistics challenges across a diverse range of industries in North America, including aerospace, automotive, food and beverage, retail, and pharmaceuticals. The company operates a hybrid model, combining non-asset and asset-based services, with a vast network of carriers and a sales force across North America, maintaining offices in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Columbus, and Mexico.
