The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety is inviting students and youth across Canada to create videos about workplace safety as part of the 2026 Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest.

The contest challenges participants to create original videos showing the importance of working safely on the job. Young workers face higher rates of workplace injuries than older workers, making safety education critical for this demographic.

Provincial contests feed into national competition

Each province and territory is hosting its own video contest, co-sponsored by CCOHS. Winning videos from each provincial and territorial contest will advance to the national competition.

The contest offers two ways to win. Students can compete at the provincial or territorial level, with winners from those contests moving forward to compete nationally for cash prizes.

National winners receive up to $2,000

The first place video at the national level will win $2,000, second place will receive $1,500, and third place will receive $1,000. Each winning school or institution will also receive a matching prize.

Winners will be announced during Safety and Health Week in May 2026.

Judging panel includes safety and education experts

This year’s judging panel for the national contest includes Jan Chappel, Senior Technical Specialist at CCOHS; Daly Koffi, Program Officer (Acting), Communication and Information at the Canadian Commission for UNESCO; Brandon Meawasige, Vice President, Communications and Marketing at Indspire; and Jonathan Paredes, Alternate Young Worker Representative at PSAC Regional Council.
