The Government of Saskatchewan has launched a digital campaign aimed at attracting American physicians to fill healthcare roles in the province, citing better work-life balance, competitive pay, and a more stable environment as key draws.
It comes as the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is also calling on Ottawa to fast-track immigration and licensing for American health professionals amid a spike in interest from those disillusioned by upheaval in the United States.
The initiative, created in partnership with the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency (SHRA), is targeting doctors currently practising in several U.S. states. It highlights career opportunities in the province, upcoming webinars, and the advantages of relocating north, including a lower cost of living and streamlined licensing for board-certified U.S. physicians.
“We want to showcase to Americans why Saskatchewan offers them a new direction by being an excellent choice for physicians who want to practice in a secure, stable and supportive environment,” said Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill.
Focus on key specialties
The campaign is tailored to attract emergency medicine physicians, anesthesiologists, and family doctors. It features online ads and digital outreach to physicians eligible for full U.S. licensure and American Board certification, noting Saskatchewan’s relatively fast route to practice for qualified candidates.
“Saskatchewan offers one of the quickest pathways to medical licensure for physicians who have American Board certification and have, or are eligible to obtain, a full license in the United States,” said SHRA CEO Terri Strunk. “We regularly showcase our opportunities in the United States, but this campaign is a bit different, designed to capture the attention of physicians who may be looking north for a new opportunity.”

Larger campaign coming
This push is part of a broader physician recruitment effort set to roll out this spring. Called “Saskatchewan is Calling,” the campaign will include stories from doctors practising in Swift Current, Saskatoon, and North Battleford. These physicians speak about their experiences working in team-based care models, the sense of professional community, and the personal fulfillment of serving Saskatchewan patients.
The expanded campaign will be marketed in provincial, national, and international markets, including the U.S.
