The constant drumbeat of tariff threats from south of the border is causing consternation, stress, and anxiety for many Canadian workers and organizations as they navigate the news and announcements coming out of the White House.
This is putting pressure on workplace leaders to prepare for disruption and provide reassurance and answers to their teams.
In response to these growing concerns, HR News Canada and HR Law Canada are hosting a special live webinar, Lead with Confidence in Uncertain Times, featuring Dr. Bill Howatt, a globally recognized expert in workplace psychological safety and crisis leadership.
“We’re all seeing first-hand the impact of this uncertainty in our workplaces,” said Todd Humber, publisher and editor-in-chief of HR News Canada and HR Law Canada. “It is causing a lot of fear and anxiety with worries about job loss — which is in turn impacting morale and productivity. It’s a major issue and we’re all looking to our leaders in the workplace for reassurance.”
The 75-minute session, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. ET, aims to equip business leaders, HR professionals, and front-line managers with the tools needed to navigate uncertainty, support their teams, and foster resilience in an increasingly volatile world.
Dr. Howatt, known for his expertise in workplace mental health, likens economic and workplace crises to an unpredictable winter storm.
“A winter storm doesn’t ask for permission, it just happens,” he said. “The same can be said for workplace crises, which can occur at any given time without notice.”
Dr. Howatt emphasizes the importance of leadership in turbulent times, advocating for a proactive approach.
“It all starts with staying grounded under pressure, focusing on what we can control, and learning key strategies for guiding teams through challenging times,” he said.
The webinar will provide practical insights on:
- Cultivating composure in crisis – How leaders can remain calm and lead decisively.
- Focusing on what can be controlled – Strategies to maintain a proactive mindset.
- Modeling resilience – Communication techniques to instill confidence and support mental well-being.
The session will feature a 60-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A. Those unable to attend live can register to receive an on-demand recording. Registration is now open. The cost to attend is $99 for individuals and $299 for a team of up to 10.
