Trip.com Group has added three days of paid childcare leave for employees with children under 18, expanding its support for working parents across its global workforce of more than 10,000 people.

The policy takes effect immediately and applies to eligible employees regardless of local statutory entitlements, the company said Thursday. It adds to a suite of benefits that includes hybrid work options, childcare subsidies, and on-site care support.

“By enhancing our childcare leave policy, we aim to give parents the flexibility they need to be present for their children while maintaining their careers,” said a spokesperson for the company’s HR team.

Support beyond early childhood

Unlike many policies that focus on early childhood, the updated benefit extends to parents of older children as well. Employees said the change acknowledges the ongoing demands of parenting beyond the infant stage.

“I’m glad I can spend more time with my kid doing meaningful things, while still maintaining a balance with work,” said Bingxing Zhou, an employee in Shanghai.

Jessica Lai, based in Singapore, said the policy “shows the company understands that parents need time and flexibility to care for their kids even at later stages.” In the UK, Annwen Bristow noted that it would help parents respond to emergencies such as school-related illness, reducing stress and improving work-life balance.

Complementary family benefits

The enhanced leave builds on Trip.com Group’s previous efforts to support employees with children. In 2023, the company provided roughly 1 billion yuan (US$137.6 million) in childcare subsidies. That program offers a 10,000 yuan (about US$1,376) annual payment per child from birth to age five for employees with more than three years of service. More than 1,100 employees worldwide have received the subsidy, which covers costs like formula, healthcare, and education.

Trip.com Group also offers hybrid work arrangements that have saved employees an estimated 900,000 hours in commuting time. According to the company, this has improved employee satisfaction and helped reduce urban traffic congestion.

Commitment to retention and flexibility

Nearly all female employees at the company have returned to work following maternity leave, the company said, pointing to the effectiveness of its broader support measures. Paid parental leave, flexible scheduling, and family-oriented benefits are key parts of its employee well-being strategy.

Trip.com Group said it hopes other employers follow suit in adopting policies that reflect the needs of today’s workforce. “Raising a child requires more than just financial support—it involves time, care, and a strong support system,” the company said.
