WorkSafeNB has launched a review of its Home Modifications Policy, inviting public feedback on proposed changes intended to improve support for injured workers with long-term functional impairments. The review period runs for 30 days, ending on January 28, 2025.
The policy, based on the Workers’ Compensation Act, provides assistance to workers who need modifications to their homes to accommodate mobility challenges caused by workplace injuries. Common modifications include adding grab bars, widening hallways, and installing ramps, railings, or stair lifts.
The proposed updates aim to enhance clarity, improve efficiency, and align the policy with current practices. Changes include expanded guidance on what modifications are eligible and how they are assessed, as well as clearer budget assessment processes to ensure renovations are necessary and cost-effective.
Tim Petersen, WorkSafeNB’s president and CEO, said the review process seeks to ensure the policy meets the needs of its users. “Our goal is to ensure that workers who need assistance have access to the resources required for functional mobility in their homes,” Petersen said. “We welcome feedback from the public, as it is critical to shaping a policy that truly meets the needs of our clients.”
The proposed policy changes are available for review at TalkSafetyNB. Feedback can be submitted online until January 28, 2025.
