British Columbia has appointed five new members to its Provincial Accessibility Committee, which advises the government on workplace and public accessibility standards. The appointments took effect Sept. 16, 2025, with two additional members joining Dec. 3, 2025.

The committee provides guidance on accessibility standards for employment, education, transportation and customer service under the Accessible British Columbia Act. The legislation, passed in 2021, aims to remove barriers for people with disabilities and other equity-deserving groups.

New committee members

The five appointees bring experience in disability advocacy, Indigenous inclusion and accessibility policy:

  • Helaine Boyd, executive director at Disability Alliance BC, has national and international experience in disability advocacy
  • Julie Robertson, interim executive director at BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, is an Indigenous leader and neurodivergent advocate
  • Tommy Leung, manager of advocacy and stakeholder operations at CNIB BC-Yukon, is an advocate for the blind with extensive advisory experience
  • Angela Clancy, executive director at Family Support Institute of BC, works on family support and inclusive systems
  • Atley Durette, accessibility lead at First Nations Health Authority, is an occupational therapist with experience in Indigenous communities

The province selected the appointees following a public call for applications earlier this year.

Committee structure

The Provincial Accessibility Committee was established in 2021 when the Accessible British Columbia Act came into force. According to the province, the committee emphasizes lived experience and representation from throughout B.C.

Members serve two- to three-year terms and may be reappointed once for a maximum of two consecutive terms. Five current terms will conclude in late 2025.

The committee meets at least four times annually and works with technical committees that provide subject-matter expertise.
