Air Canada has been awarded Gold Level certification in the Mental Health at Work category by Excellence Canada, recognizing its efforts to promote mental well-being in the workplace. The certification highlights the airline’s commitment to providing mental health resources and support for its employees.

The company’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jim Chung, said the recognition underscores Air Canada’s dedication to fostering a mentally healthy workplace. “Wellness is not just a program but an integral part of who we are and part of our daily lives,” said Chung. He added that the airline prioritizes the mental and physical well-being of employees and their families.

Air Canada’s health and wellness initiative, Unlock the Best in You (UBY), has been central to these efforts. Launched in 2022, its Mental Health First Aid program has certified over 900 employees, equipping them to provide peer support in times of need. The airline also offers unlimited, confidential counselling services to Canadian-based employees and their families, as well as access to telemedicine.

In addition, Air Canada has introduced several programs aimed at enhancing mental health awareness, including the Mental Health 360 workshop and the Mental Health Champions program. The company has also established resource centres in Montreal and Toronto, where employees can access mental health guidance.

Air Canada’s wellness efforts extend to providing physical health support, with wellness centres in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg where employees can exercise regularly.

Excellence Canada, established in 1984, annually recognizes organizations across the country for achievements in areas such as mental health. The certification process evaluates an organization’s policies, culture, and practices related to well-being.

Earlier this year, Air Canada also won the Best Mental Health Program award from the InsideOut awards, further cementing its reputation as a leader in workplace wellness.
