Construction Safety Week will take place May 5–9 across Canada and the United States, with a renewed focus on collective responsibility and fall prevention—the leading cause of injuries in the sector.

This year’s event will once again align with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) National Safety Stand-Down initiative. Employers across North America are being asked to pause work on Wednesday, May 7—or whenever possible during the week—to participate in what organizers hope will be the largest safety stand-down in the construction industry’s history.

The partnership with OSHA underscores the ongoing risk of fall-related injuries in construction and aims to encourage companies to hold safety discussions, training sessions and demonstrations on-site.

Theme highlights planning and shared commitmen

The 2025 theme, All in Together, emphasizes that job site safety is a shared responsibility among workers, supervisors and companies. It builds on three pillars: plan, own and commit.

“For more than a decade, Construction Safety Week has been a driving force in strengthening the industry’s commitment to safety,” said Mike Choutka, CEO of Hensel Phelps and chair of the 2025 event. “This year, our theme… demonstrates that safety on a jobsite is more than an individual responsibility; it’s a collective effort.”

Construction Safety Week organizers are providing companies with planning tools, discussion guides, videos, and materials translated into Spanish and French. The resources are intended to support events and conversations at workplaces throughout the industry.

Campaign includes safety commitment giveaway

Running from April 7 to May 8, the Our Plan, My Part Giveaway encourages workers and employers to reaffirm their safety commitments by checking in weekly during April and daily throughout Safety Week. Participants can also share how they promote safety on job sites for a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize. Company rankings and participation metrics will be posted online during the campaign.

Construction Safety Week is backed by 70 major contractors, including names like PCL Construction, Turner Construction Company, Skanska USA, and The Walsh Group. The initiative also receives sponsorship from the Associated General Contractors of America, Associated Builders and Contractors, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and other industry organizations and suppliers.

The annual campaign is organized by the Construction Industry Safety Initiative and the Incident & Injury Free Executive Forum, which represent thousands of workers across North America.
