CPKC and United Steelworkers reach tentative four-year agreement

by HR News Canada

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has reached a tentative four-year collective agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW), covering clerical and intermodal employees across Canada.

The railway company announced the agreement on Wednesday, stating that it applies to approximately 600 workers represented by USW. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and will remain confidential until the agreement is ratified.

Keith Creel, CPKC’s president and chief executive officer, said the agreement marks the company’s third tentative deal reached with Canadian unions this year.

“Working together with the United Steelworkers, we’ve come to a tentative agreement that is good for our railroaders and their families,” Creel said in a statement. “With this and other recent agreements, we can continue our work safely and efficiently serving our customers, enabling growth and prosperity in the Canadian economy.”

USW has not yet commented publicly on the tentative deal. Ratification timelines were not immediately available.

CPKC, which has its headquarters in Calgary, operates a single-line transnational railway that connects Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The company employs roughly 20,000 people and has a network spanning 20,000 route miles.
