Beaulieu Canada told its union on Oct. 16 it will submit a comprehensive offer to 800 unionized employees in an effort to resolve an ongoing labour conflict and enable workers to return to their jobs.
The Acton Vale, Que.-based floor covering manufacturer announced the move after 25 negotiation sessions with UES 800 failed to produce an agreement.
According to the company, the offer includes wage improvements while maintaining existing benefits and employee rights. It also proposes adjustments to workforce flexibility, which Beaulieu Canada said are necessary to serve customers, maintain competitiveness in the Canadian market, and respond to international competition.
Company seeks quick resolution
“We recognize that a labour disruption is difficult and costly for employees,” the company stated. “After 25 negotiation sessions, we had sincerely hoped that an agreement would be reached, but the current process has unfortunately not achieved this goal.”
The company said it is committed to resolving the situation immediately and invited the union to finalize an agreement quickly to preserve the long-term sustainability of jobs in Acton Vale.
Beaulieu Canada said the offer will allow the company to modernize while demonstrating fairness and respect toward employees, based on its current market position.
