More than 2,100 professional employees at Hydro One have filed for conciliation with the Ontario Labour Relations Board after unsuccessful contract negotiations.
The Society of United Professionals, which represents the employees, filed for conciliation as bargaining talks with the employer have not produced an agreement. The workers have been without a contract since Oct. 1 and have been in negotiations for five months.
“We are eager to reach a fair deal that respects our members’ contributions to Hydro One’s success and is consistent with what others have received from the company,” said Vicki Power, Society Hydro One local vice-president. “We want to continue to bargain, and we see conciliation as a necessary step to get the employer to bring forward a fair offer.”
According to the Society, Hydro One has refused to table an offer that meets the needs of union members.
“We are standing firm for a respectful deal, for equal treatment, and we will continue to bargain until we see a reasonable offer from Hydro One,” said Power. “Our members deserve nothing less for their exceptional contributions to the profitability and success of the utility.”
The Society of United Professionals represents more than 10,000 professionals in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The union was founded more than 80 years ago and represents engineers, lawyers, paralegals, project managers, analysts, trainers and IT specialists across the energy and legal sectors.
