Manitoba has launched a marketing campaign aimed at recruiting healthcare professionals from four American states, as the province seeks to address staffing shortages in its public health system.

The campaign targets workers in Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, highlighting Manitoba’s patient-first approach and public healthcare model as key selling points for potential recruits.

Manitoba offers a health-care system that puts patients first, with no insurance battles and no profit-driven mandates – just real medicine in a system that values both caregivers and patients,” said Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara.

Focus on inclusive care model

The recruitment effort emphasizes Manitoba’s commitment to evidence-based healthcare across all areas, including women’s health, gender-affirming care and public health initiatives. This positioning comes as some U.S. states have implemented restrictions on certain types of medical care.

“It is crucial for those who may be considering Manitoba as their place of practice to know that we are committed to providing evidence-based health care, whether it’s women’s health, gender-affirming care or public health leadership,” said Asagwara.

Quality of life incentives

Beyond healthcare policy differences, the campaign promotes Manitoba’s affordability and community benefits. The province is marketing itself as offering comparable costs of living with high quality of life, strong educational systems and robust social supports.

The minister highlighted the province’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as additional draws for potential recruits seeking inclusive work environments.

Recruitment strategy details

The campaign launched this week across the four targeted states, with additional resources including recruitment webinars planned for interested candidates. The province has established a dedicated website at PracticeinManitoba.ca to provide information and support for potential recruits.

Asagwara encouraged current Manitoba residents to share campaign materials with family members working in healthcare in the United States, leveraging personal connections to boost recruitment efforts.

The initiative represents Manitoba’s latest effort to address ongoing healthcare worker shortages that have affected service delivery across the province’s public health system.
