About 50 lawyers working as Crown counsel in New Brunswick have signed a new collective agreement that includes a 14.5 per cent wage increase over five years and a 16 per cent resourcing adjustment.
The agreement between the provincial government and the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada was signed Oct. 31. It covers lawyers working in legal services and legislative services within the Office of the Attorney General.
The wage increase is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2023. The 16 per cent resourcing adjustment takes effect Aug. 25, 2025.
The agreement also changes the number of steps in the pay grid, which increases the entry-level wage for positions categorized as Lawyer 1.
“We highly appreciate the dedication of Crown counsel lawyers who provide crucial legal advice to the government and its departments, ensuring our legal and administrative systems function effectively,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy. “I am pleased to sign this new agreement, and I value the commitment of the negotiating team for their hard work and diligence.”
