A new website designed to help creative professionals and newcomers navigate career opportunities in Alberta’s film and television industry launched on Tuesday.
Screen Access Alberta provides centralized resources, including career mapping tools, professional training information, and connections to industry organizations, unions, and guilds. The website is supported by Calgary Economic Development, Edmonton Screen, and the Government of Alberta.
The initiative comes in response to Alberta’s Film and TV Labour Market Survey and Calgary’s Creative Economy Strategy, both of which highlighted the need for accessible pathways into the industry and emphasized the importance of workforce skills for sustained growth.
The platform is not a traditional job board but instead offers detailed information on industry entry and career advancement opportunities, said Brad Parry, president and CEO of Calgary Economic Development.
“Alberta’s film and television industry is thriving, and to sustain this momentum we need a strong, skilled workforce,” Parry said. “Screen Access Alberta empowers emerging and established talent by providing clear pathways into the industry.”
Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir said the website supports the province’s broader strategy to attract and retain skilled professionals, enhancing Alberta’s cultural industries and economic growth.
“Alberta’s government is a strong supporter of the province’s film and TV sector, and this website will further enable Alberta to attract and retain talented workers,” Fir said.
Edmonton Screen, which will manage the ongoing operation of the website, emphasized the importance of recruitment and professional development for sustained growth in the provincial film industry.
“Recruitment and professional development are vital to screen industry growth throughout our province,” said Dorian Rowe, interim CEO and film commissioner at Edmonton Screen.
Screen Access Alberta also provides resources on equity protocols, anti-racism training, and accessibility initiatives.
Alberta has recently attracted several major film and television productions, positioning itself as a growing hub for the creative industry in Canada. For more information, see https://www.screenaccessalberta.ca/
