OpenText has appointed Kristen Ludgate, a former top HR executive at HP and 3M, to its board of directors, the company announced Thursday.

Ludgate most recently served as chief people officer at HP Inc., where she led workforce and talent strategies during a period of significant transformation. Before that, she spent over 15 years at 3M Company in a range of executive and legal roles, including as executive vice-president and chief human resources officer.

“She is a seasoned technology executive with extensive expertise in overseeing people, culture, workforces, and human resources strategies,” said Tom Jenkins, chair of the OpenText board.

The company said Ludgate’s appointment aligns with a broader board refresh strategy that has seen five new directors added over the past five years. Her background in executive compensation is expected to strengthen the board’s oversight in that area.

Ludgate holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and a law degree from the University of Minnesota. She currently serves on the board of directors at Associated Bank, where she is a member of the compensation and corporate governance committees.

OpenText, based in Waterloo, Ont., provides enterprise information management software and services.
