Peninsula Co-op has received Great Place to Work certification for 2025, according to the Victoria-based cooperative. The certification is based on current employee feedback about their workplace experience.
Great Place to Work is described by the organization as the global authority on workplace culture and employee experience. The certification process evaluates leadership behaviors linked to revenue performance, employee retention and innovation outcomes.
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognized as a Great Place to Work Certified organization. It’s a powerful reflection of the inclusive, people-first culture that defines Peninsula Co-op,” said Crysta Walski, vice-president of people and culture.
Chief Executive Officer Corey Gillon positioned the certification as both recognition and business strategy. “Being Great Place to Work Certified is more than a badge of honour, it’s a business imperative,” said Gillon.
Employee benefits and workplace culture
Peninsula Co-op offers initiatives supporting work-life balance, employee development, belonging and equity, according to the company. The cooperative also provides volunteer opportunities and community involvement programs for staff.
The organization operates with what it describes as cooperative values while remaining locally owned, the company said.
Great Place to Work research indicates job seekers are 4.5 times more likely to find quality management at certified workplaces, according to the organization. Employees at certified companies are 93% more likely to look forward to work and twice as likely to receive fair compensation and promotion opportunities.
Company background
Peninsula Co-op has operated since 1977, starting as a single food center in Saanichton, according to the company. The organization now serves more than 135,000 members across Vancouver Island through fuel, convenience and liquor retail locations in Greater Victoria and Nanaimo.
The cooperative maintains 100% local ownership while operating under cooperative principles, the company said. Services include member rewards programs, community investment and retail operations.
