In a move aimed at simplifying the certification process for safety and hygiene professionals, the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) and the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The agreement, formalized on June 14, 2024, in Moncton, promises alternative routes for certification holders of both organizations.
The MOU allows individuals with a BCRSP certification to apply for CRBOH certification through a streamlined process and vice versa. This initiative aims to make the examination routes for both organizations more accessible. Details of the specific requirements and eligibility criteria are outlined in the MOU.
Additionally, the agreement stipulates that certificants who obtain a new certification from the alternate organization within their continuous professional development cycle will be awarded full requalification credits under the respective processes.
“This agreement is an important step towards greater collaboration in Canada between two highly recognized certification boards and is an important benefit for certificants to have a streamlined avenue to obtain certification,” said Paul Belair, Chair of the BCRSP.
CRBOH President Matt Brewer emphasized the partnership’s significance in raising professional standards and enhancing collaboration between occupational hygiene and safety professionals. “Together, we’re aiming to create a safer, healthier work environment across Canada, which will benefit both our members and the communities we serve,” Brewer stated. “This MOU helps us further this goal, and we’re proud to work with the BCRSP in helping our certificants reach their potential.”
The BCRSP, established in 1976, is a federally incorporated, self-regulating, and ISO-accredited organization that sets certification standards for occupational health and safety professionals. The board grants the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)® and the Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST®) certifications.
The CRBOH is a national, not-for-profit organization that sets professional competence standards for occupational hygienists and occupational hygiene technologists in Canada and globally. Registration with the CRBOH confers the right to use the titles Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH®) or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT®), indicating high professional standards in the field of occupational hygiene.
