SafetyCo expands training capacity in southwestern Ontario through partnership with ACUTE

by HR News Canada

SafetyCo Partners is expanding its health and safety training capacity by partnering with ACUTE Environmental & Safety Services, establishing a regional hub in southwestern Ontario that will train at least 10,000 workers annually.

The move aims to address gaps in workforce safety training across construction, manufacturing, and industrial sectors, particularly in confined space compliance. The partnership will significantly increase training capacity at ACUTE’s existing Waterloo facility, which specializes in practical, hands-on safety instruction.

“More Canadian businesses recognize they can’t afford not to invest in a comprehensive approach to health and safety,” said Mark Ferrier, co-founder and president of SafetyCo Partners. “We’re thrilled to welcome ACUTE to the SafetyCo team to meet the growing demand for integrated, strategic safety and environmental solutions.”

Workplace injuries and illnesses cost the Canadian economy $29.4 billion annually, according to SafetyCo. The company highlighted the fragmented nature of current health and safety services, emphasizing the need for more integrated and streamlined solutions.

ACUTE, operating since 1995, will continue to manage its training content while benefiting from SafetyCo’s resources in digital technology, marketing, and operational support. This collaboration is expected to double ACUTE’s current confined space service capacity and create new jobs, including trainer and support positions.

“Partnering with SafetyCo marks an exciting new chapter for ACUTE,” said Ron Campbell, president of ACUTE Environmental & Safety Services. “We can broaden our reach and help thousands more workers get home from work safely.”

SafetyCo anticipates training over 60,000 workers nationwide in 2025, aiming to double that number annually. ACUTE joins a growing list of SafetyCo partners, including Industrial Safety Trainers, Mentor Safety Consultants, and SDS, expanding the organization’s combined expertise across multiple industries such as automotive, healthcare, logistics, and nuclear energy.

SafetyCo, founded in 2022, has rapidly expanded and now employs over 140 safety professionals across Canada. It has been recognized with multiple awards for excellence in occupational health and safety.
