In recognition of National Indigenous History Month, SAP Canada is reflecting on its ongoing efforts to foster understanding and reconciliation with Indigenous communities in Canada.

The company’s Indigenous Ally Network and Reconciliation Steering Committee are spearheading initiatives to integrate Indigenous worldviews, culture, and thought leadership into the corporate environment, it said in a press release.

Since embarking on this reconciliation journey, SAP Canada has implemented a range of educational programs and events. These include celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with activities designed to educate its workforce on Indigenous heritage and resilience, it said.

Additionally, the company supports the Day of Recognition for MMIWG2S, also known as Red Dress Day, and this year participated in the Moose Hide Campaign, distributing over 600 pins to raise awareness of violence against Indigenous women and children.

“SAP Canada’s dedication to Indigenous reconciliation extends beyond internal education. Our aim is to make a tangible impact within the community and continue advancing our collective understanding and actions toward reconciliation,” said Zahi Maalouf, head of Diversity & Inclusion at SAP Canada, emphasized the depth of the company’s commitment:

Furthermore, SAP’s Pro Bono for Economic Equity (PBEE) program plays a crucial role in supporting Indigenous-owned businesses by pairing them with SAP employees who volunteer as consultants to address various operational challenges.

One notable partnership has been with Nuez Acres, an Indigenous-owned provider of vegan pecan oil beauty products.

Anthony Wingham, founder and CEO of Nuez Acres, highlighted the positive influence of SAP’s involvement: “In past collaborations, it often felt like companies were merely ticking a box. However, SAP has been genuinely supportive, helping us tackle our challenges effectively and showing immediate benefits.”
