Saskatchewan has rolled out a physician recruitment campaign targeting doctors across Canada and internationally, highlighting the province’s competitive compensation and quality of life advantages.

The “Saskatchewan is Calling” campaign launched Monday features three practicing physicians from North Battleford, Saskatoon and Swift Current who share their experiences working in the province. The Government of Saskatchewan developed the initiative with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency.

“We want to spread the word amongst physicians from Canada and abroad that Saskatchewan is a great place to put down roots, grow a fulfilling career and enjoy an excellent quality of life in one of our welcoming communities,” said Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill.

Campaign highlights physician experiences

The campaign centers on personal stories from doctors already practicing in Saskatchewan. Dr. Tin-Wing Yen, an obstetrician and gynecologist in North Battleford, participated in the promotional videos.

“There are so many opportunities for family physicians and specialists in this province,” said Dr. Yen. “Join our medical community and experience life under the living skies for yourself!”

The physicians discuss both professional and personal benefits of working in Saskatchewan, including competitive compensation packages, lower living costs, shorter commutes and team-based care models. The campaign also promotes career growth opportunities and academic leadership roles available in the province.

Multi-platform advertising approach

The recruitment drive will appear on provincial, national and international online platforms, as well as physical locations including billboards, subway stations and transit shelters. The campaign extends to the United States as part of Saskatchewan’s broader physician recruitment strategy.

“We know from our frontline work recruiting health practitioners that peer-to-peer interaction is very important to deepen the interest of a prospective candidate,” said Terri Strunk, CEO of the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency. “The stories of these physicians, highlighting why Saskatchewan is such a wonderful place to build a rewarding career in healthcare and enjoy a high quality of life, is very compelling to those who may not know much about our province.”

Building on previous recruitment efforts

The campaign follows recent advertising in the United States that promoted Saskatchewan’s streamlined medical licensure process. The province emphasizes its stable healthcare environment and supportive work conditions for medical professionals.

“By investing in our provincial Health Human Resources Action Plan, Saskatchewan is a very attractive place for health care professionals to live, work and build a career,” said Rural and Remote Health Minister Lori Carr. “We offer many career opportunities to physicians who want to practice in our great province, along with some of the best physician compensation rates in the country, a supportive work environment and other support programs.”

The campaign videos and additional information about physician opportunities in Saskatchewan are available through the province’s Health Human Resources Action Plan website.
