Residents of Nova Scotia affected by recent flash flooding in the Annapolis Valley and surrounding areas are now eligible to apply for disaster financial assistance to cover uninsurable losses.
“This has been another devastating storm and an incredibly difficult time for Nova Scotians,” said John Lohr, Minister responsible for the Emergency Management Office. “These were powerful thunderstorms that caused flash flooding and severe damage. We want to help people get the support they need to make repairs.”
The Disaster Financial Assistance Program is aimed at assisting households, small businesses, municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations in recovering from the financial impacts of the storm. The program specifically covers losses that cannot be insured.
Eligible individuals and organizations can apply online, at Access Nova Scotia centres, or at MLA offices. Applicants are encouraged to assess damage, keep receipts, take photos and videos, and consult with their insurance companies to determine coverage.
The deadline for applications is October 31. The program will cover only uninsurable damage, and all claims will be verified by an adjuster.
“People who are not sure if their insurance covers the damage should contact their insurance company or broker, or the Insurance Bureau of Canada at 1-844-227-5422,” stated the release.
For further information on the application process, residents can contact 211 Nova Scotia from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. via phone, text, or email.
This financial aid initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support the recovery of communities and businesses impacted by natural disasters in the province.
