Top B.C. employers recognized for sustainability, employee benefits

by HR News Canada

Top employers in British Columbia have been recognized for their commitment to sustainability, workplace benefits, and employee well-being as part of the annual BC’s Top Employers list, announced this week by Mediacorp Canada.

The designation, now in its 20th year, highlights organizations across the province that offer competitive benefits, flexible work arrangements, and progressive environmental policies. The list includes both large organizations and smaller employers, with 19 of this year’s recipients having fewer than 100 full-time employees.

“British Columbia has always been one of the most progressive regions in the country in terms of benefits, flexibility, and forward-thinking environmental policies,” said Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, which oversees the competition. “The province is home to many fearless, progressive organizations that are not afraid to push the boundaries and stand out from the crowd in a way that attracts new employees from across B.C. and throughout Canada.”

Employers were evaluated on eight criteria: workplace environment, social atmosphere, health and financial benefits, time-off policies, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement. The selection process considers both private and public-sector organizations with head offices or principal operations in British Columbia.

Kristina Leung, managing editor of the project, said the inclusion of smaller organizations underscores that company size does not determine the ability to create a strong workplace culture. “It sends an important message to other B.C. organizations that you don’t need to be a large employer to create first-class workplaces that also protect our shared environment,” she said. “Often, it’s an advantage to be smaller because these employers quickly recognize the positive effects of such policies both on their employees and in the community.”

Mediacorp, a Toronto-based publisher specializing in employment periodicals, has managed the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project since 1999, with BC’s Top Employers being one of 19 regional and industry-focused competitions under its umbrella. The full list of B.C.’s Top Employers for 2025 was published Tuesday in a special magazine in The Vancouver Sun and on Eluta.ca, a job search engine operated by Mediacorp.
