Mediacorp Canada Inc. announced the 2024 winners of Canada’s Greenest Employers today, recognizing organizations that excel in implementing sustainable practices. The award, part of the broader Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, highlights companies that have developed a strong culture of environmental awareness.

Chantel Watkins, assistant editor at Mediacorp, emphasized the importance of listening to environmentally conscious employees.

“The common thread that runs through this year’s winners is that they listen to the employees who care most about implementing green initiatives and encourage them to lead the conversation,” Watkins explained. This approach enables passionate staff members to spearhead significant sustainability efforts within their workplaces.

The competition, now in its 17th year, not only celebrates the achievements of these companies but also illustrates how sustainability initiatives can influence broader change. Initiatives often begin with simple suggestions like adopting a ‘reuse first’ policy, which can extend to influence suppliers and customers, fostering wider environmental responsibility.

Richard Yerema, executive editor of the project, added, “By tapping into their most valuable resource, their people, employers can easily identify the areas most in need of attention.” Whether it’s in brewing, automotive manufacturing, or accounting, local champions are pivotal in advocating and executing small yet impactful steps towards greener operations.

Winning employers are chosen based on their unique environmental programs, successful reduction of their environmental footprints, employee involvement in these efforts, and the integration of these initiatives into their public identities, attracting both new employees and customers.
