The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board has reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario Compensation Employees Union, potentially ending a weeks-long labour disruption that impacted services across Ontario.

The WSIB said it expects its full team to return within 24 hours of a successful ratification vote. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Our number one priority has always been — and continues to be — helping the people who depend on us,” said Jeff Lang, president and CEO of the WSIB, in a statement Saturday. “I am proud of our team’s work the last few weeks and am very excited for everyone to come back together so we can keep supporting Ontarians who need us.”

WSIB services, including injury and illness claims, business registrations and benefit information, have remained accessible online throughout the disruption. The agency thanked Ontarians for their patience and said it is committed to restoring full service.

“Our team is committed to delivering better, easier, and faster service to Ontarians and we can’t wait to get back to doing what we do best — helping people,” Lang said.

The WSIB provides coverage to more than 5.3 million workers in over 300,000 Ontario workplaces, offering wage-loss benefits, medical coverage and return-to-work support. It is funded entirely by employer premiums and also offers no-fault collective liability insurance.
