Alberta has finalized a collective agreement with 31,000 general support services workers across the province’s health care system.

The deal between the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees and Alberta Health Services, provincial health agencies and provincial health corporations covers employees in various positions throughout Alberta’s health care facilities.

“I am pleased that the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) has a new collective agreement for the general support services (GSS) workers with Alberta Health Services (AHS), the provincial health agencies (PHAs) and provincial health corporations (PHCs),” said Nate Horner, president of Treasury Board and minister of finance.

Compensation and benefits

The agreement includes wage increases consistent with other public sector settlements and enhanced benefits for general support services members, according to the province.

Horner said the deal required significant effort from both Alberta Health Services and AUPE to finalize.

Final health sector agreement

The settlement completes collective bargaining with Alberta’s major health sectors for the current negotiating round.

“Having these agreements in place is a major investment in our health care system and provides stability for all Albertans,” Horner said.
