Showpass, a Calgary-based tech company, is providing workspace for individuals displaced by the recent wildfires in Jasper and surrounding areas. The company’s Calgary office, located near Heritage Station, will offer a fully equipped workspace along with complimentary breakfast and lunch prepared by their in-house chef.

“By opening our doors and providing a welcoming space, we hope to offer a sense of stability and support. Our goal is to create an environment where people can feel secure and maintain a routine,” said Lucas McCarthy, CEO of Showpass.

The initiative aims to help evacuees maintain a sense of normalcy during these challenging times. “We want to create a space where people can resume some normalcy in their lives,” McCarthy added. “Whether they need a place to work from Monday to Friday or just a few hours to focus, our doors are open.”

Showpass is encouraging those affected by the wildfires and in need of office space to take advantage of this offer.

“If you were affected by the recent events in Jasper and the surrounding areas and are looking for a place to call your office away from home, please contact Showpass at [email protected],” the company said in a press release.

Update on Jasper fire, other wildfires in Alberta

On July 24, the wildfire in Jasper National Park reached the Town of Jasper with early reports indicating some structure loss, according to the province.

“You’ve seen the images I have,” said Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. “We’re seeing potentially 30 to 50 per cent structural damage to give you some idea. We don’t know which structures have been destroyed, but that’s going to be a significant rebuild.”

Firefighting efforts are ongoing within the town to protect homes, businesses and critical infrastructure, the province said.

There are 176 wildfires burning across Alberta, according to government data updated on July 25. Of these, 54 are classified as out of control, 49 are being held, 73 are under control.

The Municipality of Jasper and Jasper National Park remain under an evacuation order due to out-of-control wildfires burning in Jasper National Park.
