Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has appointed Arturo Gutiérrez Hernández, a seasoned executive with a strong background in human resources, to its Board of Directors, effective November 1, 2024.
Gutiérrez, currently the CEO of Arca Continental, one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in Latin America, brings over two decades of leadership experience, including in HR, to the role. His tenure at Arca has spanned several senior positions, including Chief Operating Officer, Director for the Mexico Beverages Division, and leadership roles in Human Resources, Planning, and Legal. His HR expertise is seen as a key asset for CPKC, particularly as the company continues to expand its operations across North America.
“Arturo’s extensive leadership experience in Mexico and his deep management background will be invaluable as we grow our railway and navigate the complexities of our operations across the continent,” said Isabelle Courville, Chair of the Board at CPKC. Courville emphasized that Gutiérrez’s appointment would enhance the board’s geographic diversity and foster a culture of learning and accountability.
Gutiérrez has been at the helm of Arca Continental since January 2019, guiding the company through significant growth. In addition to his operational and legal expertise, his experience in human resources aligns with CPKC’s focus on employee development and engagement as the company positions itself as a key player in North American rail logistics.
CPKC, headquartered in Calgary, is the only single-line transnational railway connecting Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, with access to key markets across the continent. The company employs approximately 20,000 people and operates a rail network that stretches about 20,000 route miles.
Gutiérrez holds a law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and a master’s degree in law from Harvard University. His appointment is expected to bolster CPKC’s strategic efforts as it continues its expansion across North America.
